Developing Global EHS Registers and Content for a Technology Firm

Challenge

The client is a technology firm that is an innovative leader in electronic regulatory publishing of environmental, health, and safety regulations. They also develop tools for everyday compliance for their customers around the world.

They needed to expand their regulatory information to cover international jurisdictions, provide content in multiple languages to create a seamless interface between countries, and develop a tool to assist clients in assessing EHS regulation applicability to their facilities. The client also needed industry-specific regulations for specialty firms, an example being social justice regulations for platinum mines and offshore oil and gas rig regulations.

Solution

First, Antea Group developed an EHS register scope and workflow to train its Inogen Environmental Alliance (Inogen) partners how to collect facility-based EHS regulations. We used the EHS regulations to generate legal registers for 97 countries around the world. To complement the legal registers, Antea Group also created a jurisdiction-specific compliance protocol.

Antea Group provided a quality control and review of all register materials and protocols to ensure that the data was easy to understand for EHS facility managers. We focused on using simple language from in-country consultants to fully present the true intent of the requirements. All registers were provided in English with the option to also receive them in local languages. Based on Antea Group’s global audit experience, a series of applicability questions were developed to make an applicability module that allowed our client’s EHS managers to scale legal regulations to their operations.

Result

The client expanded their customer base due to their increased geographies that they can support. They also strengthened their focus on supporting facilities in the food and beverage, technology, specialty chemical, manufacturing, and oil and gas industries.

Their clients could obtain both a legal register, which could be used for ISO or EHS management system compliance, and detailed protocols that focused on actionable requirements (e.g., permits, monitoring, training, reporting, staffing, recordkeeping) to perform global internal and third-party assessments.
