The client, a multinational technology company, experienced difficulty in retaining data associated with Supply Chain. During the retrieval of this data, it became apparent that a strategy and process for chemical and material management were needed.
In response to concerns around risks and the ever-changing global legislation pertaining to chemical and material management and Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG), the client aligned a strategy team to help develop an enterprise-wide safer, greener, and smarter chemical and materials strategy with the goal to lead the technology industry forward.
To address immediate needs as well as build a strategic vision, the client requested Antea Group’s support in two areas:
Understanding current Enterprise-wide risks pertaining to Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S), controls, and current process.
Assisting with the development of an Enterprise-wide chemical and material management strategy to lead to greener and safer chemicals in products and processes.
Solution
The address the client’s immediate needs and begin building a long-term strategy, a dedicated team was formed. The strategy team consisted of selected managers from three of the client’s organizations: Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS), Product Design, and Supply Chain Management.
A broad group of Subject Matter Experts (SME) was engaged from the above-mentioned teams and various other teams such as legal and EPSI.
In addition to the client’s team members, Antea Group provided two resources to support the client’s needs:
One full-time Ph.D. Chemist with a background in Green Chemistry and toxicology.
One part-time EHS&S Consultant knowledgeable in facilitating global team workshops, leadership meetings, etc.
Result
To help the client better understand their current and potential risks, five separate global working sessions were held. One of the key deliverables of these working sessions was the development of a chemical management playbook and training.
Once the client had a better understanding of their risks, they could begin implementing the processes and practices outlined in the chemical management playbook. In this phase of the project, Antea Group assisted with overall team project management, strategy and leadership preparation, and facilitation.
Ultimately, a 5-year strategy was approved by the client’s leadership team in early 2023 and the client is in the process of implementing the new chemical and material management strategy.
