What is your favorite thing about being a sustainability consulting practitioner?

It provides a platform where I can bring everything in the energy field under one roof.  Whether the client is looking for solutions to reduce their GHG emissions, improve profitability, or incorporate renewable or new energy-efficient technologies into their business model, I can help. The energy landscape is changing rapidly and new innovative ideas and technologies are coming out all the time so it is very exciting to be working in this space.

What are some of your favorite tools/resources for professional development in this practice area?

The Association of Energy Engineers and United States Green Building Council has really been the foundation for my professional development, and I continue to attend events they put on to this day.

What is a key ingredient for success as a Sustainability practitioner?

Open-mindedness and adaptability. Too many people are set in their ways of approaching certain situations. We need to be open-minded, flexible, and adapt accordingly to the different challenges that come our way, especially in a field where change is being made all the time.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is being able to get out from behind the computer screen and visit with different people at different facilities across the Globe to learn about them and their processes.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Professional hockey player.

What was your first job?

I worked at a cranberry bog mostly picking weeds all day throughout the summer. My father told me that it would teach me to get a good education. It was an exhausting but fun experience with some funny stories along the way.

What is your most treasured possession?

I’m not really a materialistic person. So, I guess technically it would be my dog even though he is more of a best buddy than anything. I wish everyone would get that excited to see me come home!
