Optimizing Internal Auditing for a Global Personal Care Product Company
A global personal care products company wanted to build their internal capabilities for EHS auditing by seeding audit teams with local resources and provide in-country understanding. Their goal was to use both senior and junior professionals in their geographic regions that knew the business and teach them how to expand their skill set to include EHS auditing.
The client enlisted Antea Group to help design a program consisting of an auditor development continuum, and an auditor training curriculum that focused on EHS regulatory requirements as well as their internal EHS management system, guidance on how to perform an audit, and writing audit findings and reports.
Antea Group used a combination of existing and new EHS audit protocols to optimize their prior 1,000+ question protocol down to a more manageable tool. We conducted in-person auditor training on applicable EHS topics, working with the client to include internal photos illustrating good practices as well as examples of practices that needed improvement (i.e. “this is what ‘good’ looks like”). The auditor team completed self-assessments and provided peer feedback to identify strengths and weaknesses, then used their findings to identify additional training opportunities.
Antea Group developed an auditing toolkit and trained internal resources to save travel expenses (especially internationally), maximize auditing resources, and decrease the overall spending on third-party auditing. The program was uniquely beneficial as it used the client’s own facilities and EHS management system as a background for auditor training, providing on-site experience and feedback tools to help develop their internal auditors.
