Industrial Hygiene Assessment for Chemical Manufacturing Facility

Challenge

Antea Group was contracted by a large, international chemical manufacturing organization to provide a plant-wide industrial hygiene assessment of chemical and noise exposures within their facility. The overall objective of the project was to evaluate worker exposures, compare results as to compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines, and to provide recommendations for appropriate corrective actions.

Solution

Antea Group completed a plant wide industrial hygiene assessment of a 24-hour per day chemical production facility over a 2-week period. The assessment evaluated air contaminant and noise exposures for key job functions throughout the facility. Results were compared with both OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) and ACGIH Threshold Limit Values (TLVs). Additionally, sound level surveys and accompanying noise mapping were carried out for all active production areas across an approximately 30 acre site.

Result

The assessment provided a confirmation of the adequacy of existing exposure control systems and personal protective equipment in use throughout the plant. Additionally, the area noise surveys and mapping confirmed the appropriateness of existing hearing conservation requirements within all active production areas of the site. The client was able to confirm compliance with applicable workplace exposure standards.
