About Me:

My name is Nate and I have worked at Antea Group for just over four years now. After growing up just outside of New York City and moving back after school, I just recently moved to Boston and am excited to explore a new city. Outside of work, I love playing board games, gardening, and spending time with friends.

What is your favorite thing about being a Sustainability Practitioner?

My favorite part about being a sustainability practitioner is the interactive nature of the work. Sustainability work involves weaving together being technically proficient on a subject with effective teamwork to build support for that solution. I love the constant push and pull between accomplishing what we can within an existing framework along with questioning whether we can adjust the framework to accomplish even more.

If you had one month off, where would you go or what would you do?

I would start in Iceland and just wind my way through Europe. I haven’t been to any part of Europe yet and there is so much to experience.

What is the most interesting project you've ever worked on?

A client was interested in getting more involved in collaborative watershed stewardship projects across their global footprint. The project involved researching environmental projects and initiatives from around the world. On a professional level, it was great to bolster my understanding of the current state of play while gaining unique international insight. On a personal level, it left me feeling hopeful seeing what different parts of the world were doing together to make the environment healthier.

What is a key ingredient for success as a Sustainability Practitioner?

I would say enthusiasm for the subject matter and flexibility have taken me a long way. This field continues to develop every year and all clients are at different points in their sustainability journey. The most effective solutions have input from all stakeholders and it’s important to be able to adjust to what each organization needs.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

The very first thing I wanted to be was a cash register until my mom explained that the correct term was cashier. I was under the impression they got to take all the money home with them. After that, I quickly started gravitating towards work involving the environment.

If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Maybe this is a little too broad, but I would definitely say cheese. Whether it’s part of a meal or plain, I can’t get enough of it.

What is your favorite part of your job?

The favorite part of my job is feeling like I’m contributing to positive systemic change. While in consulting we may only see smaller pieces of what a client is attempting to achieve. When taken as a whole, it feels really good helping to drive positive change across entire industries.
