Biogeochemistry and Forensics

Understanding and interpreting data is a critical component of managing environmental restoration projects, and an integral part of environmental liability management overall. Knowing how to collect, manage, and effectively interpret data is at the heart of all Antea Group environmental practices. Two ways we approach this data are through forensics and biogeochemical analysis.

Environmental Forensics

Through the application of established scientific principles to determine the origin and age of an environmental release, Antea Group offers clients the support required to successfully navigate questions concerning responsibility and liability apportionment when the need arises.

With over 25 years of experience applying environmental forensic tools such as contaminant fate and transport modeling, select statistical analyses, contaminant fingerprinting, and more emergent techniques like microbiological assay and stable isotope analyses, Antea Group is well-positioned to provide strategic management and litigation support nationally or globally.

Biogeochemistry

Understanding microbiological activity in an aquifer can be critical to successfully managing soil and ground water remediation projects.

When active in the subsurface, microbes leave an activity “footprint” affecting the geochemistry surrounding them. Understanding the spatial and temporal variability of this biogeochemistry provides important insight into the fate, transport, and longevity of spilled contaminants in an aquifer system.

Antea Group has experts in the collection and interpretation of biogeochemical data with multiple years of international experience applying these skills to the management of soil and ground water remediation projects. We use techniques that range from interpretation of common biogeochemical field indicators such as dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, and oxidation-reduction potential to the application of more recent molecular tools used to characterize microbiological activity and quantify contaminant biodegradation.
