Preparing for Supply Chain Disruptions

A growing electronics contract manufacturer certified to AS 9100-C (the company was already certified to ISO 9001 and 13485). Management decided to broaden the company’s existing emergency-response plan into a strategic Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan. The CEO said, “Even when faced with the unexpected – severe weather event, natural disaster, socio-political disruption, supply-chain shortage, or the like – we are still committed to delivering customers’ products on time, on quality, and on budget. To accomplish this, it’s necessary to have a best-practice Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Plan flexible to account for the unknown.”

Technology Forecasters Inc., a joint client service of Antea Group, provided these services to help the manufacturer met their needs:

  • Tech Forecasters audited the operations to become fluent in the company’s existing practices and find opportunities for disaster preparation and swift recovery.
  • They helped to form a Disaster Recovery Team, training the team in best practices for business continuity following disruption.
  • Working with the team, Tech Forecasters recommended detailed roles for before, during, and after a disruptive incident, creating decision trees and other tools for swift response.
  •  Finally, qualified synergistic “alliance manufacturers” were identified, should it be necessary to deploy an alternate site

At the end of the project, the team was able to deliver procedures for rapid recovery from disasters/emergencies to ensure the company continues to meet delivery windows. The manufacturer also gained strategic business benefits that will help the company grow, deliver products efficiently, and set an industry example. Finally, the client also received a customized Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan, complete with built-in drills and updates for sustainable success.
